About Jenny Ceramics

Jenny Ceramics is run by Jenn VanWormer, who is currently completing her MFA in Ceramics at Hood College. Each piece is  crafted with intention. Jenny's figural work explores themes such as people's relationship with technology, feelings of disconnect from others, understanding human behavior, and more. It's not just about making art though, she also loves teaching ceramics!

Jenny is originally from Upstate New York. She got her BA in Visual Arts with a concentration in Ceramics and a minor in Psychology from Wells College in 2017. After taking a few years off from making, she moved to Frederick, MD, to start the Ceramics MFA program at Hood College. Frederick has since become home!

There are a lot of factors that influence the work she is making today. Camp Talooli, where she grew up both attending camp and working as an overnight camp counselor for many years. The liberal arts education she received at Wells, which allowed her to take many influential courses outside of her major, such as Philosophy of the Mind. Her recently discovered autism which has served as the inspiration for her MFA thesis research and gallery. And her yoga teacher training from Infinite Light Center for Yoga and Wellness!

If you're wondering how she lifts her large sculptures into the kiln-she's very lucky! Her boyfriend Tommy is a personal trainer (check out Dynamic Athletics!). She has been strength training to move the work around but more often than not he volunteers to help with the heavy lifting.

Outside of the studio, Jenny is an avid Stardew Valley player, a lover of Squishmallows, and a fan of frogs. She loves the peace of nature, especially forests and waterfalls.
