Artist Statement

As an autistic artist, I use ceramic sculpture to better connect with people. I use clay as a medium to both deepen my understanding of human nature and to communicate my own experience. Sculpture helps me process the intricacies of relationships, behaviors, emotions, and the concept of what it means to be human. I work with abstract forms to combat my own linear thinking and to turn complex, sometimes-wordless thought into something tangible.
I use human figures as a base to explore my ideas. These figures intentionally lack features so that they merely suggest the human form. My intention is to create pieces that transcend external differences, inviting viewers from diverse backgrounds to find themselves reflected in the postures, situations, or emotions conveyed within the work. Each piece serves as a vessel for familiar experiences.
